Peru Project Overview Metropolitan State University received a grant in the fall of 2005 to work with the University of Massachusetts–Lowell on a service-learning project helping people living in remote Peruvian mountain villages.The service-learning project started with Dr. John Duffy (Lowell’s solar energy professor) and Dr. Helen Correll (Metro State’s technical communication professor) deciding to work together to provide documentation for the solar energy equipment Lowell installed in the Peruvian villages. Sponsor: Minnesota Campus Compact Metro State's participation in the Peru Project is made possible by a grant from the Minnesota Campus Compact. MCC is a nonprofit coalition of 50 college and university presidents committed to strengthening communities through campus-community partnerships and education for informed and active citizenship. MCC seeks to transform higher education in ways that contribute to the development of a healthy, just, and democratic society. Guided by the Engaged Campus Vision, MCC mobilizes students and other human, financial, and material resources on campuses to make a difference on a wide range of issues in local communities. |
